Bodegraven is a municipality located in the centre of the Netherlands in the province South-Holland (Zuid-Holland). It consists of the two villages Bodegraven en Nieuwerbrug and the area known as the Meije.

Bodegraven is situated in ‘Het Groene Hart’ (the green hart) of Holland, on the junction of the railway Utrecht – Leiden, the A12 Motorway Utrecht – The Hague and the river Old Rhine runs through the village of Bodegraven. Surrounded by beautiful peat meadow polder landscapes the area lends itself well for cycling, walking and canoeing. One of the places to visit is the fortress of the Wierickerschans – formerly part of the Old Holland Waterline defensive work. Other sites are the last toll bridge of the Netherlands in Nieuwerbrug, the Arkduif windmill with brewery the Mill and the Cheese museum.
The city of Bodegraven offers excellent shopping facilities for groceries, clothes and presents. Be sure to pick up some cheese, one of the products Bodegraven is famous for.
The municipality of Bodegraven offers you a good stage of facilities, such as a swimming pool, sports clubs, -fields and -halls, schools, a library, a children’s farm, two shopping centres and a cultural centre including a theatre.

The department of citizens affairs is open Monday to Friday from 9.00 a.m. till 5.00 p.m., Wednesday also 6.30 till 8.30 p.m. All other departments are open Monday to Friday 9.00 a.m. till 0.30 p.m.
